Brandywine Festival of the Arts
Brandywine Festival of the Arts has been a perennial favorite for 50 years. This year’s festival will be held in Josephine Gardens in Wilmington’s Brandywine Park. Typically listed among the top 100 national shows, this event attracts hundreds of visiting artists and craftspeople. Although the show is juried for quality, it is not pretentious. Remarkable, one-of-a-kind pieces in a variety of media are available at an equally wide range of price points. In fact, it’s considered to be the foremost place in Delaware to purchase original pieces of art that are sure to satisfy both the casual consumer and the avid collector. Live music, a food court and free admission to the Brandywine Zoo are added bonuses.

Inaugural 5K Run/Walk

Delaware Saengerbund Oktoberfest
enjoy authentic German entertainment and cuisine. The “Enzian Volkstanzgruppe," a Bavarian dance group, performs in traditional costumes with the men dressed in “Lederhosen” and the women in “Dirndl”. Music is provided by live bands. The food is not to be missed. Enjoy grilled Bratwurst, Weisswuurst, Frankfurters, BBQ chicken, pretzels and Rollmops followed by Torten and plum cake. Bavarian souvenirs are available for purchase and the amusement rides are included in the price of admission, which is only $7.

Newark Film Festival
Held in Newark and Wilmingtom. The return of the Newark Film Festival. See award-winning movies that have created a buzz at top international and national film festivals. For eight full days, the festival premiers more than 25 independent and documentary films on the three big screens at Cinema Center 3 in Downtown Newark, just minutes south of the city of Wilmington. The following weekend, on October 1-3, the “Best of the Fest” are screened at the Delaware Art Museum in Wilmington.

Fringe Festival
Fringe Festival promises to be more exciting than ever when it returns to Wilmington. This expanded, five-day celebration of unconventional and experimental art takes audiences on an exciting journey to the cutting edge of performance, visual arts and cinema. More than 20 venues throughout the city, including the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts, the Baby Grand, Opera Delaware’s Black Box Theatre and Theatre N, host festival events.

The 3rd Annual Wings and Wheels Festival
Sussex County Airport in Georgetown will be the site of this event, which includes a breathtaking fly-in of vintage planes; a huge car show with classic cars, trucks, and more; and World War II re-enactments. Food vendors and craft vendors will be on-hand as well as musical entertainment and games and events for children.

Vendemmia Wine Festival
The Vendemmia Festival is Wilmington’s biggest fall party. More than 2,500 wine aficionados are expected to gather in Tubman Garrett Park on the Wilmington Riverfront to celebrate the Harvest of the Grapes. From 2 to 6:30 p.m., sample the finest wines from every region in Italy and enjoy delicacies prepared by the area’s best restaurants and bakeries. The festivities include four hours of live musical entertainment, homemade wine and gravy contests and a chance to win a trip for two to Italy. Area hotels such as the Hilton Wilmington/Christiana in nearby Newark, Delaware will offer special weekend packages. Advance tickets for the Vendemmia Festival are $45 and can be purchased on line.

Chrysanthemum Festival
November 1-November 21, chrysanthemums take center stage at Longwood Gardens. During this festival, more than 200,000 chrysanthemums are arranged in amazing configurations inside the four-acre indoor Conservatory. Cascades of chrysanthemums drape the walls while spiral chrysanthemum forms climb skyward towards a towering, three-tier chandelier constructed of vibrant yellow chrysanthemums hanging from the Conservatory ceiling.
